2014 / 10 Dedication of the LRDG Memorial at Doun, Scotland

The long deserved LRDG memorial has been dedicated at the location of the Stirling memorial in Doun, Scotland. Four LRDG veterans were present at this occassion and Paul Lincoln brought a replica of an LRDG-Jeep to create some sort of “desert atmosphere”. A very special occassion and I am very happy that I had the chance to attend it.

And here are some photos:

2014 / 09 Some little news...

Finally and after a long search I have now both of Orlebar's books about the Sudan Defence Force. A good read about a unit hardly anything was written ever. I wish there would be a re-publication using good maps and many, many more photos – but I fear that this will not be…

A sad news: My beautiful little 1:76 scale Matchbox SAS-Jeep suffered total destruction. It stood nice and safe in a vitrine for years – until the day, my wife decided the vitrine has to be cleaned…. by VACUUM CLEANER. That was the end of the Jeep. I don't want to say more about that event.

But – something else is much moreimportant: I am now a member of Jack Valenti's Long Range Desert Group Preservation Society. They were the first to rebuild one of the famous LRDG-Chevrolets in the 1980ies and run it until present.
